Longing for Home: Reader's Art 12 (Press Release) ›

The press release has been unveiled for a show I’m going to be in next month! It’s a book arts exhibition in Minneapolis opening March 16th. My piece GOING BACK will be a part of it. I’ll post more when the time approaches, but here’s a link for now!

cavetocanvas:

Giorgione, The Sunset, c. 1506-10

I’m really excited by the comparison of this painting with a page from my book Going Back:

An explanation of the painting provided by cavetocanvas says “the picture may have been painted to commemorate relief from the plague” and “In the right middle ground Saint George is shown on a rearing horse attacking a dragon.” I love these concepts miniaturized and included in an obvious landscape painting. Landscapes seem to occupy a banal place in many people’s minds, but they present so much more. But also, gosh, the landscape itself would say all that without the need for figures and symbolism, but I suppose that’s by modern mind at work.
You can read my book Going Back here and purchase it here. I’m still planning on writing an explanatory blog post about it, too.

Going Back and Relation are finally fucking here!

You can read them on my website, which has been updated with all sorts of goodies, and you can also purchase the books at The Store!

Going Back features inkwash landscapes accompanying my swearing rants, and Relation has cuddly sexual imagery. Both are for adults only. I’ll post more in-depth about them soon!

Formatting Going Back all-night coffee party! Tomorrow I’m screenprinting the covers. November they’ll be hitting the store. Book arts yay!
Here’s a painting I cut from the final book. Going Back is clocking in at 46 pages right now, and with the type of binding I’m using, I can’t really push it furthur than that. So! Paintings have been cut. When I’m not super busy I’ll post all the rejects to the blog, but until then, have a sketch of a rainy Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island from September 6, 2011.

Here’s the hand-painted type for the cover of my new book art piece, Going Back. The final cover will be screenprinted, so these only play a small role, but I wanted to give them their due.
Maybe you’ll find them interesting; where my hand-drawn type nerds at?

Paper arrived today! Let’s all make out and / or print sexy books on it. (Probably the latter.)

Another painting that’ll be part of Going Back.

Going Back is going to share similarities with Travel Journals. If you aren’t familiar with that work, it’s an online collection of my watercolor journals documenting my time in Europe two years ago, and it’s all available online!
Going Back is going to feature more edited and introspective writing, also a ~~screenprinted cover~~ since that seems to be my thing right now. Right now I’m working on transcribing all the writing, because as gnarly and delightful the handwriting is in Travel Journals, I’m going to try something different this time.

New blog post announcing Going Back

Here’s one painting I did on the roadtrip. I am planning on compiling the paintings and writing I did while away into a new limited-run art book titled Going Back. I’ll be posting more about it while I work! Thanks!
